Phinda Private Game Reserve has once again expanded its impressive traversing area with the recent incorporation of Ndebeni. This land was recently returned to the Mnqobokazi community as a result of a land restitution deal whereby 1140 hectares were restored to ancestral owners. Now, as landlords, the Mnqobokazi community has agreed to place this land under wildlife in perpetuity. Resulting from the strong relationship between CC Africa and the Mnqobokazi community, there was unanimous support to incorporate the Ndebeni land into Phinda, thereby securing the land to wildlife.
The land had been utilised for agricultural purposes for nearly 50 years, primarily pineapple production with limited cattle farming. The land is an extension of the Mziki Marsh, which is a natural extension of the Mkuze River floodplains. Mziki Marsh is a well known and highly productive game viewing area within Phinda, and the inclusion of this land has many ecological and conservation benefits, and will undoubtedly enhance the Phinda experience.
Phinda now comprises 23 000 hectares of pristine wilderness, with seven distinct habitats and seven world-class lodges.
